Mayor Gondek called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. on 2023 July 25.

Councillor Walcott recognized August 1 as Emancipation Day. 

Mayor Gondek recognized the passing of former Alderman William Glen Johnston.

A presentation entitled "Former Alderman William Glen Johnston (1933 - 2023)" was distributed with respect to Recognitions.

Topic: How the closure of some City of Calgary pools has impacted Calgary NW communities.

Topic: City of Calgary education programs on shared pathway use.

    1. Delete the words “active service” in section 5(e) and substitute the words “Canadian Armed Forces”.
    2. Delete sections 8(3) and (4) in their entirety and substitute the following:
    “(3) The Heritage and History Subcommittee and the Education and Training Subcommittee are composed of nine Public Members each. 
    (4) The Public Members of the Heritage and History Subcommittee and Education and Training Subcommittee, and the Public Members-at-large of the Friends of HMCS Calgary Subcommittee shall:
    (a) have expertise in communications, marketing, fundraising, finance or connection to underrepresented populations; members may be from the general public or from sectors that directly support the military or perform public safety activities; 
    (b) collectively have experience in making connections between Calgarians and various ethno-cultural communities, and a willingness to apply this experience to forging strong connections between Calgarians and the Canadian Armed Forces; or
    (c) have experience through leadership or service within communities such as:
    (i) Local nonprofit organizations engaged in direct community support to Calgarians;
    (ii) Calgarians involved in community leadership and service in of one or more of the many diverse ethno-cultural communities in Calgary;
    (iii) Calgary based educators, education administrators, and academics;
    (iv) Calgary based sports teams, athletes, retired athletes, community organizations;
    (v) Alumni of the Ship to Shore, Canadian Leaders at Sea, and Canadian Leaders Alongside programs;
    (vi) Calgarians with private or public communications and marketing experience;
    (vii) Calgary Stampede leadership and volunteers; or
    (viii) Calgary based businesses and professional organizations.”.
    3. Delete section 11(2) in its entirety and substitute the following:
      “(2) A member of Council will be appointed as the Chair of the Calgary 
    Salutes Coordinating Committee.”
    4. Delete section 16 in its entirety and substitute the following:
    “16. This Bylaw comes into force on October 24th 2023.”.
