Mayor Nenshi called today's Meeting to order at 9:33 a.m.

Mayor Nenshi provided opening remarks and called for a moment of quiet contemplation.

Mayor Nenshi recognized the work of the Advisory Committee and presented the annual Advisory Committee on Accessibility (ACA) Awards, as follows:

  • Advocacy Award – Carl Rideout
  • Access Recognition Universal Design Award – Calgary Parks – Confederation Park Lagoon Viewing Deck
  • Transportation Opportunities Award – Patrick Sweet

Recipients were called forward to the podium and received their award. A group photo was taken.

Mayor Nenshi began by welcoming the following special guests:

  • Chief Darcy Dixon from Bearspaw First Nation;
  • Chief Roy Fox from Kainai Nation (Blood Tribe);
  • Chief Aaron Young from Chiniki First Nation;
  • Chief Stanley Grier from Piikani Nation;
  • Chief Joseph Weasel Child from Siksika Nation;
  • Chief Lee Crowchild from Tsuu T’ina Nation;
  • Chief Clifford Poucette from Wesley First Nation;
  • Lawrence Gervais, President of the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3; and
  • Anne Many Heads, CEO of the Treaty 7 First Nations Chiefs’ Association.

Mayor Nenshi spoke about the decision to display the seven Treaty 7 flags and the Métis Nation flag permanently in Council Chamber to further the City’s efforts on the journey towards reconciliation and being a good neighbour.

Photos were taken with Mayor Nenshi, Council Members and the special guests.

Mayor Nenshi presented the Transportation Association of Canada 2019 Road Safety Engineering Award to the City of Calgary Roads for developing Traffic Calming Curbs.

Mayor Nenshi recognized the following contributors:

  • Tony Churchill from Roads for this amazing work along with contributors from the Roads Traffic Safety team;
  • Traffic Control and Parking team; and
  • Development and Projects, and Field Operations teams.

Mayor Nenshi invited the following contributors up to the podium for a presentation:

  3. Ravi Seera.

    That Council:

    1. Adopt, by bylaw, the proposed land use redesignation of 0.17 hectares ±(0.43 acres ±) located at 4503, 4507, and 4511 - 17 Avenue SW (Plan 2002GS, Block 24, Lots 29 to 31) from DC Direct Control District and Residential – Contextual One Dwelling (R-C1) District to DC Direct Control District to accommodate a small commercial centre with drive through, with guidelines, (Attachment 5); and
    2. Give three readings to Proposed Bylaw 231D2019.

    And further, to have the Development Permit for this site be reviewed by Calgary Planning Commission for decision as the Development Authority.
