OPENING REMARKS

By General Consent, pursuant to Section 6(1) of the Procedure Bylaw, Council suspended the Standard Order of Business for Public Hearing Meetings of Council in Section 50 of the Procedure Bylaw to allow for a Recognition of National Poetry Month.

Councillor Wyness provided a traditional land acknowledgement.

Mayor Gondek and Councillor Dhaliwal recognized Sikh Heritage Month. 

Mayor Gondek recognized National Volunteer Week.

Mayor Gondek recognized W.O. Mitchell Book Prize finalists, Joshua Whitehead, Suzette Mayr, and Vivek Shraya.

Mayor Gondek recognized National Poetry Month and Calgary's Poet Laureate, Wakefield Brewster. 

Poet Laureate Wakefield Brewster, Professional Poet & Spoken Word Artist, presented a poem entitled "Black Lit" to Council.
