Councillor Sharp called the Meeting to order at 9:33 a.m.

ROLL CALL

Citizen Member Yedlin, Citizen Member Parry, Councillor McLean, Councillor Walcott, Councillor Wong, Councillor Chabot, and Councillor Sharp.

Councillor Sharp provided opening remarks and a traditional land acknowledgement.

    That the Agenda for the 2022 October 19 Regular Meeting of the Event Centre Committee be confirmed.

    That pursuant to Sections 16 (Disclosure harmful to business interests of a third party), 24 (Advice from officials), and 25 (Disclosure harmful to economic and other interests of a public body) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Committee now move into Closed Meeting, at 9:37 a.m., in the Engineering Traditions Committee Room, to discuss confidential matters with respect to Item 10.1.1. Event Centre Update, ECC2022-1075. 

    And further, that Committee invite the following to attend the Closed Meeting discussions with respect to Item 10.1.1:

    • John Fisher, Event Centre Visioning Group
    • Phil Swift, Event Centre Visioning Group
    • Linda Brown, McCarthy Tetrault

    That with respect to Confidential Report ECC2022-1075, the following amended recommendations be adopted:

    1. As a result of The City of Calgary and the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) agreeing to formal discussions and a fresh start towards a new event centre, the Event Centre Committee recommends that Council continue the Event Centre Committee at the Organizational Meeting of Council on 2022 October 25;
    2. As a further result of the renewed formal discussion stated above, the Event Centre Committee recommends that Council thank the third party whose work has now concluded and welcome CAA ICON as Administration’s Advisor for this project;
    3. That the Event Centre Committee approve Recommendation 1 in Confidential Report ECC2022-1075;
    4. That the Event Centre Committee recommend that Council receive this report for the corporate record; and,
    5. That the Event Centre Committee recommend that Council direct this report, the Confidential presentation, and Closed Meeting discussions remain confidential pursuant to Sections 16 (Disclosure harmful to business interests of a third party), 24 (Advice from officials), and 25 (Disclosure harmful to economic and other interests of a public body) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, to be reviewed by 2025 December 31.
