CALL TO ORDER

Councillor Demong called the Meeting to order at 9:31 a.m.

Councillor Demong provided opening remarks and a traditional land acknowledgement.

9.1

Provincial Budget 2022 Commitment to Downtown (Verbal), IGA2022-0490

• Moved by Councillor Walcott

  That with respect to Verbal Report IGA2022-0490, the following be approved:

  That the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee recommends that Council:

  1. Direct Administration to invest the provincial commitment to The City of Calgary of $4 million for downtown revitalization through Alberta Budget 2022 towards initiatives and partnerships which promote safety and enhance the activation of spaces in the Greater Downtown area, ensuring downtown is a great place to live, work and visit, attracting investment and driving Alberta’s economic recovery, and report back as part of deliberations for the 2023-2026 Service Plans and Budget with recommended strategies to enhance the perception of public safety in the Greater Downtown area; and
  2. Requests that the Mayor advance The City’s Greater Downtown priorities including this recommended investment with the provincial Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation. 

  And further, this Report be forwarded to the 2022 April 12 Combined Meeting of Council.

Administration in attendance during the Closed Meeting discussions with respect to Confidential Verbal Report IGA2022-0443:

A presentation entitled "Presentation to Intergovernmental Affairs Committee" was distributed with respect to Confidential Verbal Report IGA2022-0443.

  That with respect to Confidential Verbal Report IGA2022-0443, the following be approved:

  1. That Mayor Gondek consider Administration’s presentation, the deliberations of Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) Land Use and Servicing Committee and deliberations with municipalities in the region in The City's response to the Minister of Municipal Affairs on the proposed amendments to the draft Calgary Metropolitan Region Growth Plan; and
  2. That the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee recommend that Council receive the confidential presentation for the Corporate Record and that the Closed Meeting discussions remain confidential pursuant to Section 21 (Disclosure harmful to intergovernmental relations) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, to be reviewed by 2032 April 6.

  And further, this Report be forwarded to the 2022 April 12 Combined Meeting of Council.
